should I get a personal trainer?

Hi everyone, I'm struggling to improve the way i want in the weight room. I weight 165 pounds and can only bench 200 pounds as much as I try for example. my squat isn't much better. would you recommend I hire a personal trainer to help me? it costs $50 an hour at my gym. or would i be better off just following a 5X5 program. I am 27 years old. I looked at vids online but no motivation even after 20 youtube videos lol.
 
That's a good question. I think most new guys can benefit greatly with a personal trainer. You can get one online which will be better because he can go over many small details with you that your gym trainer cant. I worked with @SteveSmi before on my cycle, even I'm a mod I used a coach for prep for my NPC show.
 
personal trainers are okay to have if you need someone to motivate and push you and keep you on a schedule, but they aren't gonna teach you much. you can always hit me up for a consult although setting up a workout program is super easy and you really don't need to spend a nickel to do it
 
there's no question you need help... with trainers, you want to make sure they have quality certifications for example because a lot of trainers at gyms skate by with shit certs... the good gyms will require certain certs for their trainers and those would be the ones to consider

Go with the 5x5 - it's not gonna cost you $50
