Bench press went down a lot

I took a couple months off from the gym just to rest my mind and body
when I got back my bench press had dropped a lot I was pretty shocked.
My question is why does this happen and how can I get my strength back quickly
 
when you are training on a consistent basis you have trained your body to a certain level of conditioning to be self taught at that particular ability/skill

when you stop of course your body will start to adjust and forget. the good news is body memory is REAL. so get back in it and you will soon be back where you were before

you're losing strength when you take time off.

your body needs time to adapt and grow again the muscle fibers.
 
your strength is down dont worry it will come back as you train more

Because you didn't create the need. But you'll be fine
