8/24/26 – Training Log (yesterday's workout)
First real upper-body test since the neck/back issue started calming down. Pain is almost completely gone, but today made it pretty obvious that the left side is still not back to normal strength-wise.
Cardio
- Treadmill – 15 min pre-workout
- Treadmill – 15 min post-workout
Chest
- Flat Bench – 135 × 6
- Left side was extremely weak and could not keep pace with the right. Shut it down rather than forcing it.
- Vertical Chest Press – 50 × 15 each arm
- Did the left arm first to see what it could safely handle, then matched that exact workload with the right.
Delts
- Deltoid Raise Machine – 40 × 19
Triceps
- Seated Dips – 145 × 22
- Single-Arm Cable Pushdowns – 22 lb
- Left: 15 reps
- Right: 20 reps
- The left side struggled hard, especially initiating the movement. I could actually feel the weakness through my back/upper-back area. If I used my right hand just enough to help start the rep, the follow-through became noticeably easier.
Back
- Chest-Supported Row, Close Grip – 100 × 20
- Chest-Supported Row, Wide Grip – 100 × 16
Biceps
- Preacher Curl
- Left – 40 × 10
- Right – 40 × 10
- Both arms – 40 × 10
- Again, left side went first and the right side only matched it. No point letting the healthy side keep pulling farther ahead while the left side recovers.
Hamstrings
- Leg Curl – 200 × 15
Quads
- Leg Press – 280 × 25
- Leg Extension – 180 × 15
Calves
- Calf Raises – 50 × 20 × 2
Abs
- Crunch Machine – 165 × 20 × 2
Overall, the workout felt good and the lower body is moving along just fine. The biggest takeaway is that pain relief and strength recovery are clearly not the same thing.
The left arm can still perform a decent amount of work, but certain movements—especially pressing and triceps work—show a very obvious deficit. I’m going to keep letting the left side dictate the workload, match it with the right, and avoid grinding or forcing reps just to say I did them.
For now, free-weight benching is probably getting shelved again until the left side can control the bar evenly. Machines, chest-supported movements, and unilateral work give me a much better way to track whether the strength is actually coming back.
Still training. Still progressing. Just being smarter about it.
