I put on muscle mass then it goes away lol

Do any of you ever experienced the situations where you put on muscle mass and you’re looking really good
and then it seems like a few weeks later your muscles are almost gone and you have a lot of water retention where you can’t even see the cuts anymore
it’s so weird my workouts literally stay the same I’m on a 4-day split and my diet stays the same as well.
I don’t know if I need to just keep increasing the amount of volume I’m doing as I go or am I not pushing myself enough to force my body to keep improving
 
The body and mind you play tricks on you
 
it sounds like it's more of a diet issue than anything
 
if this was easy everybody would be a bodybuilder it's a challenge every day just keep at it
