transitioning from free weights to just machines ?

I’m getting up there in age, I’m currently 68 years old. I’m wondering if I would be better just switching up from freeways to just going with machines going forward. I noticed when I go work out on my buddies place, who lives in an old people neighborhood his gym there has just machines. Is that just an old people thing or is it because that is what I should be focused on?
 
At your age, that type of gym is perfectly fine. It wouldn't work for someone who was younger.
 
You can always donate some free weights into the gym, maybe get a group of buddies together to donate.
 
At your age machines would be perfectly fine. There's no reason to overtrain.
 
Having options is always a good thing. You can always get a separate gym membership. Then go with your buddy.
