5X5 newbie questions

I am reading a magazine on weight training and came across 5X5 training. I always thought that it just meant 5 sets of 5 reps of a particular exercise. do you ramp up the weight on the 5th set or keep it the same? and how many lifts should i be doing per session. example do i do squats for 5 sets then do bench for 5 sets same day?

i've always recommended new guys do 5X5 type workouts but i am focused more on the top compound lifts. in other words i never want to see a newb jacking themselves off in the mirror doing curls for 45 minute like i see so many do. you should not even be in that section. there is no rule to it but i would stick to 5-8 reps with PROPER FORM. that is the key

I dont do it that way but its a way to train. I suggest 10x10 10 sets 10 reps it puts more pressure on the muscle.

You do not add weight until you can do all 5 sets of 5 reps with X weight. Then add weight and start again

5x5 is great. Just be careful not to add too much weight each time you go up. It should be a slow process of increasing strength.
